bike month participantsMay is National Bike Month, and we’re gearing up for a month full of events celebrating the joy and benefits of biking! Whether you’re a daily bike commuter, a weekend cruiser, or just looking for an excuse to dust off your bike, there’s something for everyone. Alamo Commutes is celebrating the month with its annual Bike Month Challenge — an open invitation to ride more, have fun, and win prizes along the way.

Join the Alamo Commutes Bike Month Challenge

Ready to ride and win? The Alamo Commutes Bike Month Challenge is your chance to celebrate biking while scoring some awesome rewards! Every week in May, we’ll celebrate a different theme — like biking safety, bike to lunch, bike to work, and bike with friends. Just log your bicycle trips using the Alamo Commutes app, and you’ll automatically be entered for a chance to win.

Here's how it works:

  • Each week, we’ll select a winner from the top participants who record the most bike trips.
  • Four winners will be chosen throughout the month.
  • Each winner will receive a $100 gift card.
  • Keep an eye on our social media and your emails for weekly themes and photo submission prompts. We’d love to see your rides!

Whether you’re commuting to work, cruising around your neighborhood, or exploring a new trail, every trip counts. Not only will you be helping reduce emissions and traffic congestion, but you’ll also get a shot at winning prizes! In 2015, the Texas Transportation Institute reported that the average urban commuter spent 42 hours a year stuck in traffic. That’s an entire work week! Plus, the average 20-mile round-trip commute costs $216 per month or $2,592 per year, with costs rising for larger vehicles or longer trips.

This May, why not switch things up? Carpooling with just one other person cuts your commuting costs in half, a VIA Metropolitan Transit monthly bus pass costs only a fifth of that, and walking is free! Choose to ride the bus, carpool, walk, or bike and turn your commute into time for the "Three R’s" — read, relax, and rest.

Switching from single occupancy vehicle (SOV) trips to biking is a powerful way to reduce carbon emissions and ease traffic congestion. Cars release harmful pollutants like carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), worsening air quality and posing health risks, especially for vulnerable populations. Choosing to bike instead supports cleaner air, lowers emissions, and creates healthier, more livable communities for everyone.

Stay tuned all month long for biking tips, safety reminders, and inspiring stories from fellow cyclists. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. We can’t wait to see how you’re making the most of your commute!
